Inspired by the Australian landscape and the meaning behind its name, the Allambee dining table is more than a piece of furniture. It is the result of thoughtful collaboration, refined craftsmanship, and the belief that great design quietly becomes part of everyday life.
A Place to Stay a While
Allambee was never intended as simply another dining table. From the beginning, it was imagined as a place where people gather, linger, and connect.
The name reflects that intention. Derived from an Indigenous word associated with gathering and staying a while, Allambee became more than a name. It became the foundation of the design.
Design as Dialogue
Allambee was designed collaboratively by Manuel Canestrini and Colin Whitehead under the Formacy brand.
For us, design rarely follows a straight line. It begins with conversations and sketching, then evolves through technical drawings, templates, and endless refinement.
Some ideas are exciting but are let go because they complicate rather than improve. The goal is never to create something different for its own sake. The goal is to arrive at something that simply feels right.
Making Weight Feel Light
One of the key challenges was creating a substantial solid timber table that never felt heavy.
The top is generous, but refined with a shark nose edge, softening its visual weight. Beneath it, the conical base is recessed, creating a subtle shadow line that allows it to lift gently from the floor.
During the process, we often described it as a floating top on a floating base.
Strong, stable, grounded, yet light in the room.
Details You Never Notice
Many of the most important decisions are invisible.
The connection between the top and base is concealed within a rebated plate — clean, practical, and considered.
Balance was carefully engineered, ensuring stability while preserving a sense of lightness.
Inspired by Australia’s Landscape
The design gently references Australia’s natural environment, the sculptural character of the Xanthorrhoea grass tree, and the calm expanse of open plains.
These influences are not literal, but are expressed through proportion, balance, and quiet confidence, allowing the space around the table to breathe.
Designed to Live With
Over time, furniture becomes part of people’s lives.
Celebrations, homework, quiet mornings — it becomes part of the stories that unfold.
Allambee was designed with that in mind. Not to demand attention, but to quietly earn its place.
Recognized by the Industry
In 2023, Allambee was shortlisted in the IDEA Awards, one of Australia’s most respected design programs.
That recognition was meaningful, not as a destination, but as an acknowledgment of thoughtful design and careful craftsmanship.
A Place Where Life Happens
At Formacy, we don’t start by asking what a table should look like. We ask how people will live with it.
Everything else follows.
Allambee is the result of that philosophy — a table that doesn’t demand attention, but supports the life around it.
A place to gather, to linger, to stay a while.
