What began as a request to resolve a large blank wall within the living area gradually evolved into a much broader interior fitout — one focused not only on furniture, but on improving how the apartment functioned and felt to live in every day.
The penthouse already possessed strong architectural foundations, generous natural light and expansive views, however several areas throughout the home felt unresolved and lacked cohesion. Storage was limited in places, certain rooms lacked practical functionality, and the overall interior required a calmer and more considered connection between living, dining, study and bedroom spaces.
Rather than approaching the project as a highly prescriptive renovation, the process evolved organically over time, allowing the clients to remain closely involved in each stage while gradually refining the home around the way they lived, relaxed and entertained.
The central living area became the anchor point of the project.
A custom wall unit was designed to integrate an ethanol fireplace, concealed television storage, open shelving and display areas within a restrained architectural composition that felt connected to the apartment rather than imposed upon it. Sliding panels allow the television to disappear when not in use, helping the room transition naturally between entertaining, relaxing and everyday living.
A custom solid oak dining table, finished in a deep black stain, was introduced to ground the open-plan space and provide contrast against the lighter flooring and surrounding materials. Existing furniture pieces, artwork and collected objects were thoughtfully incorporated throughout the interior, creating a layered environment that felt personal, relaxed and lived in rather than overly styled.
As the project progressed, additional elements were refined across the apartment.
Custom cabinetry and shelving were introduced into the study and bedroom areas to improve storage while maintaining a calm and understated aesthetic. Existing cupboards were internally reconfigured with additional shelving and more practical layouts to better support daily use — subtle interventions that often make a significant difference to how a home functions over time.
The project also extended into softer interior layers including upholstery selections, material coordination, colour refinement and styling guidance. Rather than dictating outcomes, the process centred around helping the clients uncover and refine what naturally resonated with them — creating spaces that reflected their personality, lifestyle and long-term needs.
At the heart of the project was a belief that good design should feel natural to live with.
Every client has their own rhythm, priorities and sense of comfort. Part of the process involved guiding decisions not only around aesthetics, but also practicality and longevity — considering how spaces would be used daily, how families move through them, and how the home could continue evolving gracefully over time.
The result is a calm, highly functional and deeply personalised home shaped through collaboration, thoughtful detailing and a shared understanding of how the clients wanted to live.
