Some furniture begins with a tight brief. Dock didn’t. It started as a conversation during COVID while Colin Whitehead and Manuel Canestrini were developing the Symbiont collection through Formacy Design Bureau.
Dock exhibited at the 2021 Vivid Design Competition, where it received a highly commended award.
From Conversation to Collection
As often happens in collaborative design, the defining moment came almost casually. Manuel remarked that the form resembled a shipping wharf cleat. The simple industrial object used to secure ships. The observation immediately felt right. Not as a copy, but as a form where every curve had a purpose.
The dock collection explores sculptural curves, balanced proportions, and practical function.

For Colin and Manuel, design has never been about creating something simply to admire. It should invite touch, feel comfortable, and become part of everyday life.
